Intermetallic Corrosion Analysis

1. Overview
IMC AREA is a program in I-MEASURE PLUS that analyzes the corrosion ratio of Cu-Al bonding pads.
It allows you to observe and measure the progress of intermetallic compound (IMC) corrosion between Cu and Al electrodes.
IMC AREA calculates the corrosion ratio by designating the IMC corrosion area within the Cu bonding pad and measuring its percentage.
2. Experimental Setup
Prepare Cu-Al bonding pad samples and an etching solution (Nitric Acid, HNO3).
Obtain the sample image using a microscope and import it into I-MEASURE PLUS IMC AREA.
After the region of interest is designated on the imported image, IMC AREA automatically calculates the corrosion ratio (%) within the designated area.
3. Processing
Load the sample image, designate the ROI (Region of Interest), and select the appropriate measurement tools.
Press the MEASURE button to display the extracted corrosion area and complete the measurement.
The same method can be applied to different images by selecting the ROI and pressing the MEASURE button again.

5. Measurement Image
By referring to the range of colors that are identical or similar to the aluminum pad, a Color Segmentation process is performed,
and the ratio of the IMC area within the contact region (ROI) is automatically measured.
